Meet my little cousin's new dog. He's very kawaii He has a broken leg from being accidently stepped on, but it hasn't slowed him down any. His favorite activity seems to be eating your leg though, he needs to be trained!

E 75th and Euclid - Today
Original Photo Description - "East 75th Street from Euclid Ave., Cleveland, Ohio"
Today's Photo - Although hidden from view by the trees, the home of Charles F. Schweinfurth is located on this street. Schweinfurth was the architect for many of the mansions along "Millionaires Row". The house is now entered in the National Register of Historic Places. I neglected to take a photo of it today but it can be seen here.
I plan to photograph all of the remaining "millionaire's row" manisons later on in the project. Some of the trees seem to be large enough to be the same trees in the orig. photo!

E 55th and Euclid facing west - Today
Original Photo Description - "Looking west on Euclid Avenue at the intersection with East 55th Street."
Today's Photo - Not much remains from the orig photo. The train track is still there but has been elevated. Note the train in the orig photo. The building on the right in today's photo might be the same, or one of the adjacent buildings. I was not able to verify which.

E 55th and Euclid facing east - Today
Original Photo Description - "Looking east on Euclid Avenue at the intersection with East 55th Street."
Today's Photo - E. 55th and Euclid was the beginning of a row of factory buildings and warehouses. Some of the ones in the orig. photo seem to still be standing today. I believe the industrial building on the left with the facade at the top jutting out in both photos are the same building. Note the train station on the right side of the orig photo. Today, that section of the train track has been elevated above street level.

1720 Euclid Ave. - Today
Original Photo Description - "Rogers Building, 1720 Euclid Ave. To be verified by Central Natl. Bank of Cleveland as its Playhouse Square Office when the contracts become effective July 1, 1950."
Today's Photo - This building is still in excellent shape. The lower storefronts have been changed into a small buisness center. Notice the parking garage entrance where the chinese restaurant used. to be. The parking lot on the left in the orig photo is now a Jewish center, the building to the right was once a cafe but is now an art gallery. Notice the streetlamp occupies the exact same spot.

E. 12 and Euclid Ave - Today
Original Photo Description - "Euclid Avenue --1884: Looking east from a point just west of E. 12th St. Second house from left belonged a little later to Col. John Hay. East of them lived the Samuel Mathers."
Today's Photo - Another example of how downtown Cleveland grew to eliminate the majority of "Millionaire's Row". The Mather Mansion still stands, however. It is owned by Cleveland State University and can be seen here. Samuel Mather was a mining and shipping mogul in the Great Lakes region and was the richest man in Ohio and a notable philanthropist when he died in 1931. Col. John Hay was the former secretary to President Abraham Lincoln and was also United States Secretary of State and the U.S. Ambassador to China. John Hay High school is named after him.

950 Euclid Ave. - Today
Original Photo - "Res. of H.C. Ford, No. 950 Euclid Av., Cleaveland Ohio"
Today's Photo - E. 9th and Euclid was the beginning of a miles long stretch of residences owned by prominent Cleveland citizens. Called "Millionaire's Row", it no longer exists except for a handful of surviving mansions. H.C. Ford was a city councilman during the 1870's. Today the site of his estate is occupied by office buildings, including the Huntington Bank building.
