Grocery Shopping at Marc's

View all 6 photos...
Just about everybody in Northeast Ohio knows the shopping miracle that is Marc's. Brand Name products at bargain prices! Their prices can't be beat.... but you never know if they will have what you need until you actually go. Notice the Christmas decorations and ads, and its not even Thanksgiving yet 0)

Yah, can someone PLEASE tell me why AMERICANS like to sell Christmas stuff BEFORE it's Thanksgiving. And WHY do they decorate their lawns with stuff like it's going out of season???? I am talking like huge displays that you would pay admission to see. Thu 20-Nov-2003 00:59

Today for lunch we went to Pho Hoa. The best Pho and Bahn Mi Thit in all of Ohio! We picked up some groceries and a "Lucky Bamboo" for Siu Yan's boss' desk.

Scavenger Hunt!

Planning their route
Planning his route
Glad they dont have to do this!
View all 30 photos...
Siu Yan and I went on a state-wide scavenger hunt sponsored by one of the guys (Rex) in a group that we've occasionally rode with. Out of 32 Items, some as close as 1 block from our starting point (The 5 Points Restaurant in Sagamore Hills, OH) and some as far as Dublin, OH (132.3 miles[213 km] away)! Altogether we covered 153 miles (246 km). We only had time to find a handful of the items before heading to the finish point, Rex's wonderful home in Lakewood, OH. Each item was worth a certain number of points, and whoever got the most points won prizes! The numbered pictures correspond with the items that we did manage to find

1. At the NW corner of Rt. 8 and Rt. 82 is the "historical" Northern Ohio Traction and Light Co. building. What year was it built? (1905)

2. MCR Yamaha in Ravenna, located just off Rt. 14 at 6203 Gladys has a unique light fixture hanging over the parts counter. Describe it. Nice folks, thank them for their help. Open 'til 5 p.m. Sat. (see the picture )

3. How many varieties of bread does Irene's Bakery sell? Double your points at this location if you bring back a loaf... Find Irene on Nicholson Rd. just off Rt. 305. You know where Nelsons Ledges Racetrack is? You're Almost there.. (Irene's was closed, so we couldn't buy a loaf of bread. They gave us the bonus points anyway!)

4. Star Cycle, the business once located at the NW corner of Rt. 422 and Rt. 528/88 heated their business with what heat source. Look around, you'll find it. (Wood burning stove!)

5. Just inside the covered bridge under restoration in Ashtabula County at the intersection of Rt. 322 and Wiswell Rd (west of Windsor) is the phone number of the Ashtabula Covered Bridge Festival. What is it? (216-576-3769. We were lucky to find this one, the bridge wasn't actually on Wiswell Rd. I saw the bridge in the corner of my eye when we passed it, and we weren't sure if it was the right one. A couple of retarded kids there we of no help. Luckily, we saw the sign tucked way up on the inside corner of the bridge!)

6. What cartoon character figurines are in the "lovely" back yard at the intersection of Rt. 86 and Rt. 166 in Thompson Township? (Snow White & the Seven Dwarves. My camera sucks, so I couldnt zoom in for a good picture.)

7. What's the elevation of Concorde Air Park on Rt. 608 in Concord Township? (Elevation 995 ft msl)

8. What is the fine for stealing the life ring owned by the city of Grand River under the picnic pavilion at Pickle Bill's north parking lot in Grand River? Find it off Rt. 44, west side of the river. (see picture!)

9. Mentor Headlands State Park (located on the north end of Rt. 44) find row P-18 in the parking lot. There is a dispenser for a sanitary item there. Record the name of the product, company name and location of the company. (Mutt Mitt, from Burlington, Kentucky)

10. Buy a trinket from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Find it at the northern end of East 9th Street. Cleveland. (We bought a $.50 postcard)

What a gorgeous property - despite the Pepto Bismol pink. The scavenger hunt looks like so much fun - too bad you couldn't do that on your bikes! Tue 28-Oct-2003 15:43

These are pics of my new job place on 1859 Prospect in Cleveland, OH. It is the home of Tri-Star Consumers and Coffee Cos (pronounced Cuz). We help people understand how to be better consumers by working with their credit reports. The shop is going to be great for workshops, seminars, presentations, all kinds of group gatherings. I work hard every day to listen to my boss and help him make things happen. Please wish us Good Luck and Prosperity in this new venture!! Thank you!!

Old Money

View all 4 photos...
Siu Yan has some very old Canadian bills, its very rare to have paper money this old, from the 1950s! My favorite one is the 5 dollar bill. Great color and design features.

I like this more than the new design! Tue 21-Oct-2003 15:50

I agree with Maryam...I love the old bills look. The new ones don't have as much character! Thanks for sharing this. Brings back memories! Tue 21-Oct-2003 15:58

I love these! My favourite is the last shot in all its detail. I have a now useless $2 bill from when those were still around (before the toonie came into existence). Great shots! Tue 21-Oct-2003 16:38
